Good day everyone, I hope this article finds you in good health. So Pastor Madiba asked me a while back to write this, and I’m glad I finally got to finishing it. I’m not really a pen to paper kind of person so I’m just going to write as if I’m talking to someone, because I think I talk better than I write. These are my own experiences and observations and I hope someone will get something from them.

Being Born in The Message

I was born in the message as my parents were already message believers and no I’m not going to tell you how old I am. I found that being born in the message can be the greatest blessing or the biggest downfall. When you are born in the message, you keep all the “rules/laws” so to speak. You wear long skirts, don’t go to parties, don’t drink and you listen to your parents. You are basically a good citizen, but it takes more than that to be a bride member who is what we all have to strive towards eventually, regardless of age or the number of years in the message.

I find that some of us who were born in the message become very religious, we go to our parents’ church and we take the message for granted. It takes God’s amazing grace to transition from being a church member to being a bride member and if He has been gracious to you in that regard you should thank Him greatly. The flip side of being born in the message is that all your life you are cushioned from all the harsh things in the world. You are always sheltered by the Master’s great hand and you have God as your greatest cheerleader. You learn from a young age that no weapon formed against you shall prosper and when you know this man you can do and be anything!

Being young

Being young in these days is so difficult hey! My parents always tell me how difficult it was in their day because they had nothing, but I always think to myself how difficult it is in our day because we have everything. We are bombarded from every angle and the devil is on a rampage.

The theme of our time is conformity, being the same; looking the same and saying the same things, and we all know that being a message believer is the extreme opposite of this. That is why we should be sure of what it is that we believe in and in whom we believe in. It shouldn’t be because it’s your parent’s church, it should be because you had a personal experience with God, otherwise you will not withstand the pressure and sooner or later you will crack regardless of how good you have been.

On Making Mistakes

Everybody makes mistakes and I for one have made a share of them, but every time I go to God and ask for forgiveness, he forgives me and picks me right up.

1st John 1: 8 says

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

On that note, we should be careful of the company we keep. Don’t set yourself up to fail, if you go to the wrong places and associate with the wrong crowd, you will end up doing the same things that they do, ever hear the saying; birds of the same feather. I mean you may resist at first but if you constantly expose yourself to such situations then you will start justifying them to yourself and they will end up not being so wrong. That’s one thing I have learnt personally and now I am very careful when choosing friends, to a point where I would rather not have friends than to be compromised.

Working Hard; Medical School

There is a scripture that I love and it was told to me when I was in my matric year. It talks about laziness and I have never forgotten this scripture, it’s always at the back of my mind.

Its proverbs 6: 6-9

Go to the ant thou sluggard, consider her ways and be wise: which having no guide, overseer or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep o sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth and thy want as an armed man.

What I know is that nothing comes easy in life; you cannot divinely pass that test if you know you didn’t study for it. Work hard and God will bless you. He is the giver of all good things and when you put Him first in everything you do, He will always come through for you. I have seen Him in the little things and in the big things in my life.

Medical School

Medical school was hard I’m not going to lie; it was hard work and tears all the way. You know the saying that anything that’s worth having is worth waiting for and working hard for? Well I did work hard and I made it. I had God on my side and support from my family and that helped me through. I remember this one incident at school which was by far the scariest experience ever. We were in theatre performing a caesarean section and it was an emergency. For some reason I didn’t have my protective glasses on me that day and I didn’t have time to ask for them, so I went on and operated without goggles.

Halfway through the operation, the patient started bleeding everywhere and her blood squirted in my eyes and she was HIV positive. I saw my life flash before me, I’m sure I even sang swing low sweet chariot! So I had to go on ARV’s to prevent the chance of getting infected, although it is a very small chance it can happen. I became so sick on them, I mean I was throwing up and nauseas all the time and just tired and I could not do it, so I told God that God I’m getting off these pills and I need you to handle this, and I went for testing after and I was fine, He handled it and He always does. I love what I do and I’m grateful that I get to do it; it is very rewarding and challenging at the same time.

It makes God even more real to me because I cannot explain away the concept of childbirth and of conception scientifically, it just doesn’t make any form of sense to me, that a tiny product of conception can become a full blown baby and can grow in the “tummy” for nine months, it just blows my mind and it just shows me the wonder that is our God. He is unexplainable, He just is. Science always wants to explain things and find a reason why, but being a believer I don’t need the whys and the hows of things because I know my father is the creator. I will never forget delivering my first baby, it was the most amazing experience ever, delivering a little human being into the world; amazing.

My prayer every day is that may God use me in some way in my job to impact someone. I guess that should be everyone’s prayer regardless of where we are working and what we do.

Having a Career

I get asked this question a lot, so are you a career woman? I never know what to say to that question, what qualifies someone to be a career woman? Does it mean that if you are in the message you can’t be successful, are they mutually exclusive? Anyways I’m not a career woman, I’m just a sister who has a career and there’s nothing wrong with that. I personally think it’s great that a lot of us sisters are going to school, getting educated and getting good jobs and still living good Christian lives.

That in itself is a testimony. I think the main thing to remember is that education does not make anybody wise; it just opens a lot of doors for you. The first wisdom is the fear of The Lord and if we keep that then we can we be anything and do anything and we will be alright. I get the feeling that as sisters we are not expected to aim high, I don’t know if it’s just me feeling this way or not but let’s aim high as sisters in all aspects of our lives, be it at school, at work, in our Christian lives, lets shine all around and still remain humble at the same time. Let us show the devil.

A Few Things I Try to Remember:

Respect everyone, regardless.

Don’t define yourself by how you look or what you do because the devil can use that to derail you.

Stay away from church politics; they will wound your soul.

Have brotherly/sisterly kindness, if you don’t agree with someone handle it accordingly and not on Facebook! Or if you feel a burning desire to do it on Facebook at least use the inbox option.

This is for us young sisters; don’t be desperate to get married and don’t let yourself be pressurised when you see your friends getting married. God is the author of marriage and therefore He knows the right time for you to get married and He will bring your prince charming. In the meantime seek a relationship with God and ask Him to edify you and to help you mature spiritually, so when you get married you are of sound mind and spiritually mature because I personally don’t think that marriage will suddenly change a person and make them spiritual. Be the kind of sister that if you were a brother you would want to marry yourself.

Know who you are and whom you believe in, don’t be swayed and easily influenced. Know that you are a daughter of Melchizedek and don’t let the devil treat you like a commoner; REFUSE.

Don’t have a certain brother/ sister as your standard, because you will be left very disappointed.

Have an attitude of gratitude, focus on what is right in your life and be thankful for those things.

Don’t worry too much about things, God has got this! “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you and before you were born, I consecrated you”

That’s it. Be blessed.
